Dogs may also suffer from growth genetic problems such as dwarfism.
However, one dog from Clarksville, Indiana, proves that no physical limitations will hinder him from enjoying life.
Michaelangelo Augustine, also known as “Mikey Gus,” isn’t your ordinary German Shepherd. Mikey Gus is born with dwarfism, a condition on which physical growth is stunted. He is part of Temperance and Spartacus’ litter.
When Mikey Gus was born, his human family didn’t notice any problems until he turned four months old. Amy Carkuff, Mikey Gus’ fur mom, noticed that his leg bones were shorter than his siblings. Amy brought Mikey Gus to the vet, and that was where they found out that Mikey Gus was suffering from dwarfism.
What’s worse about Mikey Gus’ condition is that his life expectancy is shorter than regular German Shepherds. It is said that he only has two years to live. Amy and her family are given options to end Mikey Gus’ suffering, but instead, they give Mikey Gus’ a chance to live a happy and contented life.
Amy spent on Mikey Gus’ rehabilitation so that he can walk and run outside. While Mikey Gus was undergoing therapy, Amy and her family didn’t deprive him of enjoying nature. They would bring Mikey Gus on a nature walk while he is on a stroller. His mom, Temperance, would also look after him, and she would make sure that Mike Gus would have some playtime.
Indeed, Mikey Gus has proved that he is larger than life! He enjoys playing outdoors with his parents as if he doesn’t have any disability. He would even explore the farm and play with other animals there. Mikey Gus is indeed a miracle! He has broken all misconceptions about dogs with dwarfism.
Amy regularly shares Mikey Gus’ adventures on the farm on her Instagram page, practiallyperfectineveryway.
Continue to shine, Mikey Gus!
