Some pooches have to be surrendered to animal shelters for unthinkable reasons. This is a sad reality among dogs. Ryeka, a Labrador mix, is no stranger to this feeling.
When her former owners move to a new place, Ryeka’s owners decided to surrender her to the Arizona Humane Society. According to the previous owners of the dog, they can no longer take care of Ryeka. This incident saddened the six-year-old pooch.
This is a normal reaction for the pooch because she already got used to her previous environment. Since she is no longer with her former owners, Ryeka needs to adjust again to a new setting.
Per reports, the former owner of Ryeka had a big house. Ryeka was not the only pet in the house since her previous owners also have cats and other farm animals. Ryeka became a pet to the owners’ children.
One day, though, the family decided to move from their old place to a new one. This left the owners with no other choice but to surrender the pooch to the protection center.
According to the shelter’s staff, the owners did not tell them why they had to leave their previous house. What they only stated to the volunteers is that they needed to move to another place for greener pastures.
Ryeka was the only pet that her previous owners surrendered to the animal shelter. The cats and other pets were with Ryeka’s former owners in their new home.
The volunteers wanted to provide Ryeka a new home. To make this possible, the volunteers posted the story of the dog on social media. Soon enough, people started asking about the eventual adoption of the pooch.
The animal center then found a new home for Ryeka. They, though, did not divulge who the lucky adopter is. The animal center made sure that Ryeka will be in safe hands and will be taken care of by her new family.
Update: Thank you so much for your support of Ryeka. We are so happy to share that she was adopted last night – check out those big smiles in our comments! 🎉🎉🎉 Please understand that surrendering a pet is a very difficult decision to make, and we can’t imagine the heartache this family faced. We are thankful that this family scheduled an appointment with AHS to make sure that Ryeka was properly taken care of and given another chance at finding a wonderful home, which is exactly what she did last night. Those who feel they can no longer care for their pet are encouraged to reach AHS’ Pet Resource Center at 602.997.7585 ext. 3800. Ryeka was surrendered to AHS today when her family moved and was only able to take one of the family dogs with them. She is confused by her surroundings, terrified of the strange noises, and it took some time to coax her inside of the kennel, but she finally perked up enough to eat her dinner when her new friends came to visit. With just a little patience and a lot of love, we know that this beautiful 6-year-old Labrador Retriever will get the second chance she deserves at furever! Ryeka has lived with dogs, cats, and farm animals. She has been around kids 6 months and older and loved being walked by her kiddo friends. She is house trained, knows her basic commands, and gives the best kisses around! Come and visit Ryeka at AHS’ Campus for Compassion today!Meet Ryeka: bit.ly/2qkOUMZ
