Mary Lynn Whitacre and Ryan Washick are a newlywed couple who lives in Simpsonville, South Carolina. They live with their two dogs, 18-month-old Rajah and two-month-old Ollie. Both are Shepherd mixes.
Barely one month after they moved into their new home, Rajah got into an adventure that made her famous.
Frightened
One late Sunday afternoon, the couple and their pets were relaxing in their backyard when someone from their neighborhood set off some fireworks. Rajah was startled by the sudden series of explosions and quickly became scared.
The dog leaped to his feet and bolted, jumping over their fence. Rajah was gone in just a second. Ollie, who was not disturbed by the noise, just looked at her sister run away. Mary Lyn and Ryan were stunned. They didn’t expect their pet to just go off like that.
The couple tried to give chase, but it was too late.
Home again
The worried dog parents got in touch with everyone they knew. They even contacted all rescue groups they could find online. During that time, they drove around their community, hoping to get a glimpse of Rajah. Before midnight, they went home, vowing to resume their search the next day.
Ryan couldn’t get to sleep, so he sat in their living room. At three in the morning, he was half asleep and was jolted to his senses when their doorbell rang. When he looked at the monitor of their ring camera, he was surprised to see Rajah sitting on their front porch. Ten hours had passed since he ran away.
He quickly opened their door and brought the dog in. Rajah was covered in thorns and some poop. It seems that she had a great time playing and rolling around. The couple spent the next hour cleaning her up, but they were happy that she was back home.
The couple shared the footage from their ring camera online, which quickly became viral. Rajah’s story spread like wildfire, with many news organizations picking it up.
